Privacy Policy

Cheviot Web Studio (“I”, “me”) is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. I take your privacy seriously and handle data in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What I collect

• Enquiry details you submit through the contact form — your name, business name, email, phone number, and the details of your enquiry.
• Chat widget messages if you use the chat bubble — the messages you type, the page you were on, and your IP address. The chat is answered by an AI assistant (Cloudflare Workers AI); a real person only sees the transcript if you leave contact details or ask to be contacted.
• Technical data such as your IP address, collected automatically when you submit the form or use the chat (used to prevent spam and abuse).
• I do not use advertising trackers or sell your data to anyone.

Why I collect it

• To respond to your enquiry and provide a quote or the services you ask for.
• To have a conversation with you through the chat widget and follow up if you ask to be contacted.
• To keep records of our correspondence and any work carried out.
• To protect the website from spam and misuse.

The legal basis for this is your consent (when you contact me or use the chat) and my legitimate interest in running and protecting my business.

How it’s stored

• Enquiries and chat transcripts are stored securely using Cloudflare’s infrastructure and, where enabled, forwarded to my email or phone so I can reply.
• The chat widget keeps a random ID in your browser’s local storage so your conversation carries across pages — this is not used to track you across other websites.
• I keep enquiry and chat data only as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and for reasonable business records, then delete it.

Who it’s shared with

• I don’t sell or share your data for marketing.
• Data may be processed by trusted service providers that run the website and email (for example Cloudflare and email delivery services), only to provide those services.

Cookies

This website uses only essential cookies needed for security and, in the admin area, to keep a signed-in session. It does not use advertising or analytics cookies without your consent. The chat widget uses your browser’s local storage (not a cookie) purely to keep your conversation going if you move between pages — this is strictly necessary for the chat to work and isn’t used to track you elsewhere.

Your rights

• You can ask for a copy of the data I hold about you, or ask me to correct or delete it.
• You can withdraw consent to being contacted at any time.
• To exercise any right, email hello@cheviotwebstudio.co.uk.
• You also have the right to complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
